Pivot Irrigation

Sprinkler Package Design and Maintenance

  • As a Rule of Thumb, nozzles should be replaced every 7 years and regulators should be replaced every 15 years.
  • As a general rule, closer together, closer to the ground with lower pressures will provide higher water application efficiency.
  • Manage spacing. Skip the first 30 to 40 feet in the first span to allow maintenance around the pivot point. Spread the spacing in the first span (90” spacing). Reduce the spacing in the second and possibly third span (60” spacing). Reduce the spacing on the remainder of the machine (30” spacing) to get the highest efficiency.
  • Reduce evaporative losses by increasing the depth of water application in each pass to the greatest depth possible without runoff (1.5 to 2” per pass).
